Faculty Research Grants
Each year, the EUCE awards research grants to faculty for projects related to the study of the institutions and policies of the EU; the political, cultural and economic dimensions of European integration; or transatlantic relations. The purpose of the EUCE Faculty Research Grants is to develop and promote faculty reserach expertise in the EUropean Union and transatlantic relations that will contribute to the research mission of the EUCE. Please see below for the recipients of the 2009 EUCE Faculty Research Grant Awards:
Dr. Paul M.A. Baker, Director of Research, Center for Advanced Communications Policy, Georgia Insitute of Technology
Dr. Baker is exploring the impact of the public sector on the design of virtual public participation platforms, focusing on universally designed, accessible spaces and venues for connectivity in comparative EU-US contexts. His research examines the impact of EU institutions, directives and information (ICT) policy on the implementation of virtual communities.
Dr. Margaret E. Kosal, Assistant Professor, The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs
Dr. Kosal's work is intended to advance critical thinking on the potential role and strategic impact of bionanotechnology internationally. Dr. Kosal is comparatively exploring the national meanings, organization, and strategic implications surrounding the development and fielding of nanotechnology in the context of EU-US interaction.
Dr. Fei-Ling Wang, Professor, The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs
In order to further assess the rise of China and its global implications, Dr. Wang will research the evolution of international relations in Western Europe, particularly the Westphalia system, in comparison to the Qin-Han system in East Asia. Additionally, Dr. Wang will investigate European perspectives and views regarding the meaning and implications of the rise of China.
